KHSD Board Approves Distance Learning for Start of 2020-2021

The Kern High School District Board of Trustees voted to begin the 2020-2021 school year in a distance learning model at a special board meeting held on Wednesday, July 15.
All KHSD schools will remain in a distance learning only model for the first quarter, ending October 23, 2020. At the end of the first quarter, the District anticipates transitioning to a hybrid learning model, consisting of students attending school in person one or two days a week, and continuing with distance learning for the remainder of the week.

Teachers and staff have continued to work over the summer to prepare online delivery of instruction as well as other services to students and their families. Additional Chromebooks and WiFi hotspots have been ordered to facilitate this process. District, site administrators, and staff are working hard to continue developing plans to meet the needs of our students, and more information will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Driller Parents:

As you may have heard, the KHSD Board of Trustees voted this week to start the school year in an online distance learning environment through Canvas for first quarter. At BHS, we are now working out the details and procedures to make sure that every student has what he or she needs, including Chromebooks and hotspots, textbooks, and access to all of the online resources that will be required. We will send out more detailed information very soon which we hope will answer many of your questions and also include days and times to visit campus and check out materials. We will also update our website under the Online Learning Resources tab as information becomes available.

Also, please be aware that ALL student email, Canvas, and Google accounts have been linked and reset to the student's birthday in the following format: !YYYYMMDD. Please encourage your students to log in through today to access their accounts and to check email and Google Classroom frequently for communication about school.

We thank you in advance for your patience, and as always, please contact us if you have any questions via email or by phone once the office reopens on July 27th at 7:30 am.
