Incoming Freshmen Information

Being a Driller means that you are now a part of a legacy that is enriched in pride, excellence, and integrity. You will have access to some of the greatest teachers, staff members, and opportunities that any school can offer to help you fulfill your goals.  ONCE A DRILLER, ALWAYS A DRILLER!
We encourage all incoming freshmen and their parents/guardians to participate in the registration process by following the step by step process below.  Please help your student fill out the Freshmen Interest Survey in Step 2 below with elective and athletics choices to help ensure the best fit for your student in the upcoming school year. Our ultimate goal is to get you connected to the programs you enjoy most!
STEP 1: Register your student. There are two options to register either by submitting online registration or by completing a registration packet. You may download the packet below or stop by the BHS campus to pick one up in front of the school during office hours.
Click on the document below to download and print a registration packet.  Registration packets can be picked up and dropped off in front of the BHS main office, Monday-Friday, between the hours of 7:30am-1:30pm.
STEP 2: Fill out the Freshmen Interest Survey below to select your top three choices for elective courses. This form will be used by our Counselors to develop your student's class schedue for the 2020-21 school year. Summer School Sign-ups are also included on this form.  Please check out the "Electives and More" section at the bottom of this page and click on the links to find out more about our programs before you complete the form.  Be sure to fill out any additional applications if required.
STEP 3: To enroll your student, please provide ONE COPY of the following:
  •     Current PG&E, So Cal Gas, or water bill (in Parent/Guardian(s) name) for proof of residence*
  •     Student’s Immunization records, including TDap (TB Test also REQUIRED when entering from outside state/country)
  •     Student’s Birth Certificate
  •     Student’s Previous School Transcript and/or Last Report Card
  •     If applicable, legal custody/guardianship documents
*RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT: In order to be compliant with KHSD guidelines, proof of residence will be required in order to register for Bakersfield High School.  Without this verification, your student’s registration will be delayed until we receive the needed information. If you have any questions or concerns, please call 661-324-9841.*
STEP 4: Drop off your completed Registration Packet. Once your registration packet has been filled out and you have copies of all required documentation listed above, place all of your registration paperwork in an envelope labeled with your student's first and last name.  Please drop off your completed registration packet at the BHS Main Office between the hours of 7:30am-1:30pm, Monday-Friday, through July 10th.  You will need to call the main office at 661-324-9841 once you arrive on campus.  Campus will be closed July 13-July 31 and will re-open on Monday, August 3, 2020.
UPDATE AS OF JUNE 30, 2020: We regret to inform our incoming freshmen Class of 2024 that our summer orientation day has been cancelled.  Due to current restrictions related to Covid-19, we will be unable to host our in-person, on campus Freshmen Orientation Day and Parent Link Crew session originally scheduled for August 4, 2020.  We are working on a virtual orientation video and will have more information as we get closer to school starting in August.
BHS has so much to offer!  With the most elective course offerings in the district, we encourage all incoming freshmen and parents to take a look at each of our elective programs below before making your choice.  Each program offers a unique experience for students and in various areas of interest that provide something for everyone!
Click on the program titles for specific details about each program and fill out any required applications for the programs in which you're interested. And if you have additional questions about a particular program, simply click on the teacher advisor's name to send us an email.
